A nursery should be a sanctuary for the baby. From changing baby diapers to reading bedtime stories, the parents and the baby will spend a lot of quality time in the nursery. Therefore, the nursery should be designed to be cozy to create a peaceful atmosphere. There are many options to consider when planning a nursery design.

Nursery Themes

The nursery should be a unique place in the home. Therefore, the first step for designing the nursery is deciding on a theme. By having a central theme or idea, the nursery room decor will be easier to do, and the decor will make the room special. The best way to decide on a theme is by going to the stores or flea markets to get ideas.

Plan to start working on the nursery months before the baby is born since some themes will require ordering from a specialty shop, and the items will take longer to arrive. Focus on a central piece of furniture that will go with the theme, and then add accessories to it such as quilts or items with cartoon characters on them. The room will start coming together once a theme is discovered.

Make a Plan

After a theme is found, a plan will need to be written out before proceeding. The design should be functional to grow with the infant. To plan the design, individuals can ask themselves some questions to help them create the room.

Design Questions to Consider

Where will be the best place to put the crib in the room? The position of the crib could be located where a bed might go later, but it should not be too close to the windows.

Will a bassinet and crib be included in the design?

Will the nursery include a play area for the baby as he or she grows older? Using another room for the playroom is a good alternative to give the baby a change of scenery.

Is the baby the only occupant of the room, or will the room be shared with a sibling?

What stickers for nursery room walls will make the baby happy? Seeing special wall decor of characters can stimulate the baby’s brain. Just be careful to use the right colors to make the room peaceful for babies to sleep better since some colors promote crying instead of sleeping. For instance, a yellow colored room has been known to make a baby cry more than a blue room has. In addition, bright colors such as red will help stimulate learning in a baby.

How much money can be spent on the nursery?

What needs to be done to make the room safe? The room should be baby-proofed by using electric plugs, gates and other safety items.

To complete the design plan, it should include the size of the room, the lighting, storage, flooring, bed, bedding and wall decor. The design plan along with some personal touches added to the nursery will make the room unique for a new baby.
